What is Insulation, what is used for?

Insulation, or more generally known as thermal insulation, is a method applied in the construction sector with the aim of controlling the passage of water, wind, and heat. Its goals include reducing environmental impact, ensuring the longevity of buildings, increasing energy efficiency, and creating healthy and comfortable living spaces. Additionally, it acts as an envelope to prevent unwanted heat transfer, thus preventing heat losses. This, in turn, reduces dependency on heating and cooling systems, leading to cost savings.

External insulation, also known as cladding, is the technique of covering exterior walls with materials that have insulating properties. In other words, insulation is a necessary component of cladding. Commonly used insulation materials in cladding include mineral-based fibrous insulation materials like mineral wool (such as stone wool). While cladding offers many advantages, it also comes with some disadvantages. Some of these disadvantages may be difficult or impossible to address by improving the properties of the insulation material alone. Izolteks NG200, the world’s most advanced A2 class non-combustible membrane, has successfully passed all fire tests and provides superior fire safety.

Minimizing the risk of fire and potential damage from a fire in the buildings we inhabit is of utmost importance. The non-combustible membrane Izolteks NG200 enables you to create facade systems with ideal fire safety, minimizing risks to human life and property damage.

Material-related fires can unfortunately result in loss of life, mainly due to the toxic gases emitted, which can range from 40% to 60%. Izolteks NG200, even at the highest temperatures during a fire, does not emit toxic gases. It is non-flammable, does not melt, drip, or produce smoke.

When exposed to high temperatures, Izolteks NG200 releases approximately 100 times less heat compared to its counterparts. This value can only be detected with highly sensitive devices and is below 0.26 MJ/m²

Unfortunately, as a result of the occurrences of fires and their tragic consequences, building regulations in the construction industry have been tightened, and the use of combustible membranes has been prohibited.

Izolteks NG200, successfully passing all tests, holds the distinction of being the best building product in this regard and the most advanced technological solution.

It holds the EuroClass A2 (EN13501-1:2018) certification approved by the European Commission.

It is the only material that meets the fire resistance requirement specified in the ‘Fire Protection Regulation’ in many countries for buildings with a height of 28.5 meters and above.

It prevents the spread of fire along the facade and fire-related collapses, providing time for evacuation and increasing both life and property safety.

Furthermore, in multi-story buildings, especially at certain heights where external firefighting becomes challenging, the non-combustibility feature becomes even more critical. Izolteks NG200 consists of approximately 93% glass fiber. Glass wool is inherently non-combustible. Treated glass wool is manufactured with a fluoropolymer, using a special formulation to provide the necessary strength. This way, it retains its high resistance to fire.

In addition to mitigating the fire risks that may arise during the use of buildings, Izolteks NG200 also provides protection during construction activities. For example, it eliminates the risk of sparks from welding igniting cladding materials.

High-Performance Thermal Insulation

Izolteks NG200 enhances thermal insulation performance by preventing unwanted heat losses, thereby improving energy efficiency and savings.

Mineral wool, due to its porous structure, cannot retain heat when exposed to wind. The heat stored between the fibers is quickly blown out. Additionally, temperature differences can negatively impact both the building and insulation durability and quality.

The Izolteks NG200 wind barrier membrane acts as an envelope, preventing unwanted heat transfer and thereby reducing heat loss. It also maintains the insulation’s durability by sealing cracks and damages in the insulation. This ensures that the thermal protection properties of mineral wool and other insulation types are preserved.

40% HEAT LOSS CAUSES WALLS

It is known that more than 40% of heat losses in buildings originate from walls. Building membranes are a key factor in ensuring thermal comfort in buildings with ventilated facade insulation.

Thermal comfort is defined as the provision of the necessary thermal parameters for a person to live a healthy and comfortable life. While it can be subjective, environments with temperatures generally between 20~24°C and a relative humidity of around 50% are considered ideal.

Its water-repellent feature prevents accumulated water from entering through small cracks and gaps, thus preserving insulation. Even when submerged in water, Izolteks NG200, with its high level of water resistance, remains highly hydrophobic and stays completely dry.

According to the European method AATCC 22, when tested using the water drop spray method on an inclined material, it has received a score of 100 out of 100. This means that there are no water droplets on the surface, and none of the material gets wet.
